Janesville's changing economy

Five years ago, the General Motors plant in Janesville closed down. The plant was the city's biggest employer and its closing has defined the city since. To mark the anniversary of the plant, The Gazette is chronicling its closing, which is still standing unused in the middle of town. A big part of the story is the changing economy of Janesville since the closure. Here are two portraits I've done for the story of people who changed jobs as the economy of Janesville changes.

Chris Farlinger left his job in construction in 2008 to go back to school. He is now a web developer at Foremost Media in Janesville.

Jeanie Rodenberg, a former GM employee, now works as an assistant merchandiser at Blain Supply Company, the distributor for Blain's Farm and Fleet

Release the Pheasants!

The Wisconsin DNR released farm grown pheasants in advance of this year's pheasant hunting season.

Government Shutdown Protest

Protestors gathered outside the Rep. Paul Ryan's office at the Olde Towne Mall in Janesville, Wisconsin to deliver a petition asking for an end in the government shutdown. Police said they couldn't congregate in the mall so they stood out in the rain.
